If you met me today, you’d see a busy single mum raising two amazing, beautiful children, running a business, and fiercely protecting her peace. But if you could rewind the clock, you wouldn’t have found a confident woman. You would have found a young girl trapped in a cycle of chronic pain, family drama, and an absolute feeling of hopelessness.

To the outside world, I put on a massive cover-up. On the exterior, I looked like the popular rebel—crazy, fun, happy, and like I had it all together. But behind that loud mask, I was chronically, deeply depressed and completely lost.

The truth is, I had suffered from acute bowel issues since I was a little girl, but the emotional trauma from my childhood made everything worse. I was completely afraid to speak up. Because I couldn’t voice my pain, I held on to it. That emotional sentence of holding everything inside eventually showed up in a literal, physical sense. My gut became the storage unit for my unspoken trauma.

By September 2000, my body had reached its absolute limit. I was faced with major surgery to have 95% of my large bowel removed. I was absolutely terrified. The doctors warned me of the brutal complications and adhesions ahead of me, and they even told me I may never be able to have children. The fear surrounding it was suffocating, but I couldn’t see any other option. I remember telling myself, Well, at least I will go to the toilet every day. It was the drastic fresh start I had been praying for, but the nightmare wasn’t over.

For a full year after that massive operation, I was back in emergency every few weeks with severe, unexplained pain. Living with a toxic bowel completely wrecked my system. It triggered a domino effect of hormonal imbalances, skin flare-ups, painful bloating, and fluid retention. Mentally, I was completely spent. The anxiety and frustration were constant, and the “popular rebel” was utterly defeated.

The Breaking Point

The ultimate crunch came when I failed a heap of medical tests measuring my nerve-to-muscle connections. Inside my body, severe adhesions were causing everything to stick together and constantly twist, causing severe internal damage. The doctors delivered the next medical sentence: We need to do more surgery. You’re going to lose some of your small intestine, and you need a colostomy bag.

I went back to my job at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, my mind absolutely racing. But my perspective completely shattered when I looked at the patients and parents I was working with every day. I was surrounded by children fighting cystic fibrosis and cancer—beautiful kids who literally did not have a life ahead of them.

Looking at them, a wave of profound clarity hit me. I did have a life ahead of me, and I was throwing it away to endless surgeries. Something shifted deep inside my soul, and I made a non-negotiable vow:

“No more. I refuse to accept this. I have a life to live, and I am going to find every possible way to help myself.”

The Trap of “Perfect” Health

I refused the extra surgeries and began an intense journey of learning. I threw myself into studying natural health and training in a colonic clinic for two years and went on to work at a famous Hippocrates Health Retreat, working with fasting, cleansing, and holistic health.

But early on, I fell into a new trap: the obsession with perfectionism. Back then, my approach—and the counselling I received—was all about control. Don’t eat this, don’t eat that, do this perfectly, or you won’t ever heal. For someone like me who had survived trauma, control felt safe, but it was actually exhausting.

The real turning point in my healing came when I realised that true health isn’t about perfectionism or rigid control. It is about looking at the whole picture. It’s about calming your nervous system, healing your gut with the right diet and supplements, and doing the brave emotional work to release the trauma your body is holding onto.

More than anything, I realised I didn’t need people telling me what I should be doing or where I ought to be. I needed people who could emotionally support me and meet me exactly where I was at.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

That massive shift is what led me to originally start Inner Health, which has beautifully evolved into what it is today: Inner Wellbeing on the Northern Beaches.

My journey didn’t just heal my body—it made me an amazing, deeply compassionate therapist. Because I know what it’s like to be judged, broken, controlled, and controlling. I understand all too well how, when you have absolutely zero control over your family, your surroundings, or your health as a young girl, you try to fiercely control everything later in life just to feel safe.

Because I’ve walked that exact path, I run my practice with zero judgment. I don’t actually believe in “right or wrong” or “good or bad” when it comes to health. I firmly believe that one person’s medicine is another person’s poison. Each one of us is a completely unique individual. A supplement or food that completely transforms one person’s life might have the exact opposite effect on someone else. Both myself and my clients are living proof of this—I see it every single day.

And despite everything those doctors predicted about my fertility all those years ago? I did have my two beautiful children. Now, obviously, I cannot grow my large bowel back. Life can still be tough, and I still have to manage the physical complications of having no colon. But at 47 years old, I am navigating those challenges one at a time, getting through them, and functioning well—with absolutely no more surgeries.

No One Shoe Fits All

Over the last 26 years, I have dedicated my life to mastering different modalities of healing. I built Inner Wellbeing on the firm belief that there is no “one shoe fits all” approach to wellness. Let’s face it—not everyone wants colonics!
🙂

That is why I combine health education with a range of different treatments to support and detoxify the body through multiple pathways. In my clinic, I practice:

  • The Brunelle Method of Colon Hydrotherapy: For deep, gentle gut clearance and rebuilding.
  • Lymphatic Drainage: Moving toxins out safely through the lymphatic system
  • The HOCATT Ozone & Oxygen Treatments: Advanced ozone and oxygen therapies to detoxify the body through the skin and vitalise your cells.

Whether you’re needing support with detox, immunity, weight loss, energy or simply feeling better in your body, I’m here to help guide you towards the treatment that best supports where you’re at right now.

A Message to My Fellow Girlfriends

Between navigating the beautiful, chaotic life of being a single mum to my two amazing kids, and running a small business on the Northern Beaches, I know exactly what it’s like to wear way too many hats. From the stress of marketing and welcoming new clients, to handling the endless admin, I know firsthand how heavy the daily hustle can get.

But I’ve learned that your past—and your daily stress—does not have to dictate your physical future.

To my fellow Social Butterfly Girlfriends, I want to challenge how we look at health. Too many people think “vitality” just means the absence of sickness. But to me, true vitality means waking up with energy, feeling incredible and happy in yourself, and genuinely thriving—not just surviving.

Please don’t wait until you are facing a health crisis or completely burnt out to choose wellness. Don’t wait until it’s too late. The modalities I offer at Inner Wellbeing are designed to detoxify your system, protect your peace, and unlock a level of energy you might not have felt in years.

You deserve to feel amazing right now, exactly as you are. It is never too late to draw a line in the sand, take proactive care of your body, and reclaim your ultimate vitality on your own terms.

Let’s talk in the comments: What does true “vitality” mean to you in your daily life? I’d love to hear how you choose to bring energy into your world.
